ENERGY BUSTER CREDENTIALS

What applies to your solar installation?

SAA accreditation

Applies to the individual solar designer or installer completing or supervising the relevant work.

NETCC Approved Seller

Applies to Energy Buster as the retail business selling the solar or battery system.

Smart Energy Council

Energy Buster is listed as a member in the Smart Energy Council industry directory.

What Does an Accredited Solar Installer Mean Today?

Solar accreditation terminology in Australia has changed. If you have previously been told to choose a “CEC accredited solar installer”, the installer accreditation you should now look for is Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accreditation.

It is also important to separate installer accreditation from the credentials of the company selling the system. SAA accreditation belongs to the individual designer or installer. A solar retailer can separately hold NETCC Approved Seller status.

Energy Buster operates as a NETCC Approved Seller, while installations are completed by appropriately SAA-accredited solar professionals.

INSTALLER ACCREDITATION

Is Energy Buster SAA Accredited?

The important distinction is that solar companies themselves are not SAA-accredited installers. SAA accreditation is held by individual solar designers and installers.

Energy Buster installers are appropriately SAA-accredited for the work requiring that accreditation.

For systems participating in Australia’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, the relevant designer and installer must hold the appropriate SAA accreditation for the work being completed.

Before installation, you can ask for the name and accreditation number of the accredited installer associated with your project and check their current accreditation status directly with Solar Accreditation Australia.

THE KEY DISTINCTION

SAA accredits people, not solar retailers

When comparing solar companies, ask:

Who will design my system?

Who will install or supervise the installation?

What is their SAA accreditation number?

Does their accreditation cover the system being installed?

This gives you something independently verifiable rather than relying solely on a company badge or marketing claim.

RETAILER CREDENTIAL

NETCC Approved Seller

  • Applies to the solar retail business
  • Consumer protection standards for sales and marketing
  • Requirements around quotes and contracts
  • Standards covering delivery, installation and customer support

Is Energy Buster a NETCC Approved Seller?

Yes. Energy Buster is a New Energy Tech Consumer Code Approved Seller.

NETCC Approved Seller status relates to the business selling new energy technology rather than the accreditation of the individual electrician or solar installer.

The NETCC covers consumer protection standards across areas including advertising and sales, quotes and contracts, delivery and installation, warranties, complaints and after-sales support.

This is different from SAA accreditation, which relates to the people designing and installing the system. A customer therefore benefits from checking both the retailer and the individual installer rather than treating the two credentials as interchangeable.

OLD TERMINOLOGY EXPLAINED

Are CEC Accredited Solar Installers Now SAA Accredited?

INSTALLERS & DESIGNERS

CEC accreditation → SAA accreditation

The Clean Energy Council previously administered accreditation for solar installers and designers.

Solar Accreditation Australia became the accreditation scheme operator in 2024.

So if you see older advice telling you to choose a “CEC accredited installer”, the current accreditation to check is SAA accreditation.

SOLAR RETAILERS

CEC Approved Solar Retailer → NETCC

The former Approved Solar Retailer program was replaced by the New Energy Tech Consumer Code program.

The current business-level terminology is therefore NETCC Approved Seller rather than CEC Approved Solar Retailer.

Energy Buster’s Solar Industry Credentials

These credentials apply to different parts of the solar purchasing and installation process. They should not be treated as interchangeable.

INSTALLATION

SAA-Accredited Installers

Energy Buster solar installations are completed by appropriately SAA-accredited installers.

SAA accreditation applies to the individual installer or designer, so the relevant person’s accreditation can be independently checked before installation.

RETAIL BUSINESS

NETCC Approved Seller

Energy Buster is a NETCC Approved Seller.

This credential applies to the retail business and its commitment to the consumer protection standards contained in the New Energy Tech Consumer Code.

INDUSTRY MEMBERSHIP

Smart Energy Council Member

Energy Buster is listed in the Smart Energy Council industry directory.

This should correctly be described as <strong>Smart Energy Council membership</strong>, rather than “Smart Energy approved”.

EQUIPMENT

CEC-Approved Products

The Clean Energy Council continues to maintain approved product lists covering solar PV modules, inverters and battery equipment.

Where an eligible installation requires products from these lists, the proposed equipment should be checked against the applicable current CEC approval list.

How to Verify a Solar Installer Before You Buy

A reputable accreditation claim should be independently verifiable. These checks can be completed directly with the organisations responsible for each program.

01

Check the Installer

Ask who will install or supervise your solar system and request their SAA accreditation number.

Search that person in the Solar Accreditation Australia status checker.

02

Check the Retailer

Search the official NETCC Approved Seller directory for the business providing your quote and contract.

This checks the retailer separately from the installer.

03

Check Energy Buster

Energy Buster’s Smart Energy Council membership can be checked directly through its current industry directory listing.

Why Check Accreditation Before Choosing Solar?

Solar accreditation is not simply a logo to look for at the bottom of a website.

The person designing and installing the system, the company selling it and the products included in the proposal can each be subject to different accreditation, consumer protection or product-list requirements.

Separating those checks makes it easier to understand exactly what a company’s claims mean and what can be independently verified.

Before accepting a quote, ask:

  • Who is the SAA-accredited designer?
  • Who is the SAA-accredited installer or supervisor?
  • Can I check their accreditation number?
  • Is the retailer currently NETCC approved?
  • Are the exact proposed products on the applicable approved lists?
  • Who is responsible for warranty and after-sales support?

The Clean Energy Council continues to maintain approved product lists for solar PV modules, inverters and other relevant equipment. This is separate from installer accreditation, which is now administered by Solar Accreditation Australia.
Ask Energy Buster for the name and SAA accreditation number of the installer associated with your project. You can then enter those details into Solar Accreditation Australia’s accreditation status checker.
